You know this has pretty much become a stamping blog after all stamping is my niche and its the kind of nail art I prefer to all others. However occasionally I will post nail art that doesn't fall into that venue and today is such a day! I really wanted to use some of the nail foils I bought last year from AliExpress. I actually purchased them with the intent to do some foil stamping, but I could never find a polish that allowed for a successful transfer and so they have been languishing in the dust ever since lol. At least that was the case until today ;)
Mani-louge
Basecoat/Topcoat: UNT Peel Off Basecoat / Poshe Fast Drying Topcoat
Basecolor: Essie Licorice
Foil: AliExpress (random)
So here's the thing about this nail art. You need to make absolutely sure you don't just apply the entire foil all over the glue. If you do that you're just going to get foil nails which is not the point of this nail art. I actually purposely dispersed up all the foil pieces on the black background to create exactly this look where the foil is "peeking out" around the black.
Another important point - foil does not work well with most traditional topcoats this includes Poshe. In order to get around this and preserve your mani take some nail glue and swipe it over your finished mani. When it's completely dry then you can apply your topcoat. This will prevent your foil from wrinkling which is the reason most topcoats are not compatible with foil. The alternative is if you do gel nails and home and have a lamp and a topcoat you can apply that and cure it. This method will also allow for wrinkle free preservation of your nail art.
If you do not apply topcoat of any kind you are going to have problems with dust and everything else sticking to the non-covered glue laden portions of your nail. If you are like me this will drive you insane so just cover your nails with topcoat even if it means wrinkles.
So what did you think? Definitely a little off my regular beaten path but happy making. From time to time its definitely nice to try something new. I'd like to revisit this style again with different colors and maybe a different idea I have in mind!
Have any of you done any fun experiments with foil? Truthfully I would love to actually get a successful stamping done with foil, but it has been such a letdown I've completely gone off of it. If you have any tips such as the type of polish you've used that's been successful please leave them in the comments below. Thanks for reading and I'll see you next post!
