Hope everyone is having a great weekend! As you can see I've updated my blog again and I hope you like the new layout. Today I'm back with another review from one of my favorite indie plate makers Loja BBF. I know you are like why the heck is there a part 3 to this review? Well that's simple. I have no idea how to label these posts since the plates aren't released as collections, but rather individually in batches. Today's review will focus on most of the the new plates from the last release that I spoke about here and as well as a few from the prior release here. As usual with my reviews this post will be split up into sections covering the sizing, images, swatches, etc so if you are interested in a particular section feel free to scroll through and please leave comments and questions since they are very helpful for answering questions in future reviews. Now let's get started!
Loja BBF
A quick refresher to the brand for those not in the know. Loja BBF is ran the extraordinarily sweet and professional Cris. This is a Brazilian indie brand that has been stealing hearts for a about a year now. You know mine was stolen a while ago from all the posts and nail art I've created for this brand. Cris has released over 30 plates to date with themes ranging from the Hunger Games and Alice in Wonderland to henna-like prints and fabulous tribals. For those that follow regularly you may recall in my first post I spoke of a few issues with etching which Cris was quick to address and resolve. However I wanted to point out that Cris has since upgraded the machines that she uses for etching and that today's plates will be coming from those new machines not that I've had any problem with my old plates since I had 3 replaced, but I wanted to let you know in case you were interested.
Image Size Comparisons
The images do vary a bit as you can since some of the images encompass the entire plate while others are just smaller accents. However the full sized images for these plates measure 2.0 x 1.6 cm (length x width). As usual I included a few other full nail image sizes below so that you can compare brands.
MoYou London Plate Pro 08 (non-XL) - 1.5 x 1.3 cm
MoYou London Plates Explorer 10 (XL) - 2.2 x 1.6 cm
Bunny Nails HD B - 2.0 x 2.5 cm
MJ Plate VIII - 1.7 x 2.2 cm
Fab Ur Nails Fun 2 - 1.7 x 2.2 cm
Vivid Lacquer 007 - 2.0 x 2.0 cm
Cheeky Jumbo 2013 - 2.0 x 1.5 cm
Bundle Monster CYO - 1.9 x 1.7 cm
Cici & Sisi - 2.0 x 1.5 cm
As I stated before these plates are backless and don't come with a blue film over them. Once you remove the plate from its paper sleeve you are ready to stamp. As always when I review a set of plates I use Wet N' Wild Black Creme unless there is an issue with image pickup in which case I switch to my gold standard polishes Konad or Mundo de Unas. I also use my gold standard XL sticky/squishy marshmallow stamper from Bunny Nails or as in this case my XL marshmallow stamper from Magno Nails.
Again as I said in my last review the reason I choose to stamp with Wet N' Wild Black Creme for my swatches is because it's cheap and readily available. Furthermore it is the lowest quality polish I can use for stamping. What does that mean? It means I don't expect images generated by WnW to have near the clarity of those generated using a polish designated for stamping. Stamping polishes allow an image to stamp with even more clarity and crispness than regular polish. Period. In short if I have a plate that stamps well with WnW polish this is my assurance that indeed the etching on these plates is excellent enough to support stamping with a polish that is not meant for that purpose.
For the sake of thoroughness I took one plate from this bunch with very fine details, BBF 27 or the "Frozen plate", and stamped out 2 of the most detailed images with a variety of different brands of polish. I did this because I have also seen comments that this brand will only stamp with certain polishes and I wanted to prove thats not the case at at all. In fact it's far from it.
Key for the polishes: (top row from left to right same order for bottom row)
WnW = Wet n' Wild Black Creme
MdU = Mundo de Unas
Konad = Konad
FabUrNails = FabUrNails
Rica = Rica
DRK = DRK Nails
WnW FM = Wet N' Wild Fantasy Makers Darkest Hour (from last year)
SH Insta Dri = Sally Hansen InstaDri in Mint Sprint
SH Color Foil = Sally Hansen Color Foil in Purple Alloy
CC Cold Metal = Color Club Cold Metal from their Foils Collection
Dashica = Dashica Stamping Polish in Metallic Turquoise
Overall Impression
I said this in my second review - I can finally give these plates a full 100% excellent rating. I stand by it in fact if anything I see that the quality of these plates may have even gone up a notch. I only had to stamp once for most images unless I made a mistake. Even fine details were apparent across the board with plain Wet N Wild black creme, and from the brand comparison swatches you can clearly see that regardless of how opaque or non opaque the polishes were the images transferred impeccably. The best transfers occurred in order of best to worst with Mundo de Unas and Konad then in a tie FabUrNails WnW Fantasy Makers then Rica. If you're wondering why Rica isn't placed higher it's because when I tried to flip the stamper to get rid of some extra image pick up and stamp the polish dried on the stamper before I could stamp. I was able to do that with the other polishes so that's why Rica got bumped down despite its excellent opacity.
These plates are beyond phenomenal! One reason I work so hard on the swatches and extra information is so that you can appreciate that I will not bias a review regardless of whether I purchased the plates or they were sent to me for evaluation. I want my readers to know their money is being well spent when they invest in stamping plates. And these plates are so unique and so beautiful with such great quality they will definitely be worth your investment.
I will be swatching out the final plates from the Loja BBF catalog when they arrive but for now you can definitely feel at ease and excited about this brand. Cris has truly outdone herself and these plates will be a unique part of your collection. You can purchase LojaBBF plates via Store Envy site or by emailing Cris at lojabbf@gmail.com. The plates are currently sold out but should be restocking in a soon. Plates retail for $7.50 USD and ship worldwide. I hope you enjoyed this review and that it was helpful to some of you. I would love it if you would leave some feedback in the comments. Thanks for reading and see you next post...
