Hey stamperistas,
Welcome to my first stamping plate review of the new year from a brand new to Lacquer Lockdown! That's right today is all about Moyra nail art stamping plates. I've been wanting to share this brand with you for ages now. Looking over their plates and their items for months at a time dying over their innovative images and wishing I could have their offerings in my own stash. The only reason I haven't shared is because I'm standing by my rule of not sharing brands that I haven't reviewed before so that I don't share something unreliable to my followers. Now I finally can and let's face it Moyra has been making all the right moves - innovative images, professional branding, and emergence from a stable franchise with a reputable reputation. I've been having plategasms and now get ready cause you're gonna have them too ;) As usual this review is split into sections feel free to scroll through.
Please don't forget to leave me questions, or comments about your experience or feedback you have at the end. It really helps my blog, other buyers, and also the makers and resellers as well when they read things!
Moyra
Moyra is a company based right out of Hungary. This is not an independent stamping plate company but rather a well established lacquer brand which started up in 2000 and specializes in gel polishes. In the last year they moved over to establishing a stamping plate company complete with 16 individual plates with the promise of many more releasing in the near future. On top of creating these plates they have also launched their own brand of stamping polishes in the last year which I do not own. Moyra is represented largely across most of Europe and in fact has Facebook pages aimed at various countries however the main Moyra page is the one which I stalk for updates. You can find their social media outlets below ;)
Not only does Moyra offer stamping plates, but they also offer their own version of Messy Mansions nail templates called Shape Cards which are plastic. In addition they sell stampers which appear to be similar to what's fairly available on the market as well as scrapers. I have both the scrapers and shape cards as well.
Here are some of the mockups of the plates. I apologize for not having them all, but they weren't all available online. There are a total of 16 plates so far.
Each plate comes covered in blue shrink wrap and backed by an acetone resistant branded cover. Each plate also comes with its own customized sleeve. I struggled with the sleeves quite a bit because the fit is a touch too snug and made it somewhat difficult to remove the plates without tearing the sleeves. I had to completely do that in the case of one plate :/
The plates themselves measure 14.5 x 9.5 cm length by width. So these are very similar in size to UberChic Beauty, FUN, and MOS plates.
Image Size Comparison
The image size on these plates can vary because of the accent images and some other oversize or panoramic images (see below), but generally they are 2.0 x 1.7 cm length by width but they can and do get larger. Below I have some comparisons with other plate sizes on the market. You can also click here to view a comprehensive chart I created with measurements from most brands of stamping plates. Also I have recently added some new measurements to the chart so be sure to check it out!
Bunny Nails HD B: 2.5 x 2.0 cm
Fab Ur Nails FUN 14: 2.2 x 1.7 cm
Messy Mansion: 2.3 x 1.8 cm
MoYou London Pro (Non-XL): 1.5 x 1.3 cm
MoYou London Pro (XL): 2.2 x 1.6 cm
MyOnline Shop MJVIII: 2.2 x 1.7 cm
Pet'la: 2.4 x 2.0 cm
UberChic Beauty: 2.0 x 1.7 cm
Vivid Lacquer: 2.0 x 2.0 cm
Swatches
Standard operation here for the new year. I'm swatching with Wet N' Wild Black Creme and my gold standard XL marshmallow stamper from Bunny Nails from 4 years ago. I only switch to Mundo de Unas in the event I am unable to pick up an image. Which unfortunately I had to do quite a bit here with one plate. I also ended up requiring the use of my CWS Jumbo which is my most marshmallowy and large stamper to see if that would improve pickup.
Ornaments was my problem plate. Swatch after swatch I had problems picking up more than half the images. This was solely due to the fact that the etching on this plate was too shallow. From the annotations you can see where I tried with my Chelle We Stamp Jumbo vs my regular Bunny Nails marsh vs angled swatches and for some I could still barely get the image. This was a bit frustrating for me because of all the plates I ordered this one was my favorite. However I will say the rest of the plates swatched pretty nicely so I'm going to put this one down as a one-off and hopefully I can get it replaced.
Look at how detailed these animal images are! All the fine lines on the bird came through perfectly.
For those unfamiliar with my reviews you may wonder why I bother swatching with a nail polish which is not designated as a stamping polish. I choose to stamp with Wet N' Wild Black Creme for for a few reasons - it's cheap and readily available. And I know it is the lowest quality polish I can use for stamping and still get reasonable swatches. I don't expect images generated by WnW to have near the clarity of those generated using a polish designated for stamping because stamping polishes allow an image to stamp with even more clarity and crispness than regular polish. Period. In short if I have a plate that stamps well with WnW polish this is my assurance that indeed the etching on these plates is excellent enough that it can support stamping with a polish that is not meant for that purpose.
Fine lines transfer here beautifully and all the details of the faces plate stand out flawlessly.
Final Impression
These plates are gorgeous! I said so right from the start. Innovative images and a good mix of some classic abstracts that lend themselves to dozens of designs. The etching for the most part was great however obviously looking at my swatches of the Ornaments plate those were not so fantastic. Given the rest of my plates were quite well etched I'm going to put this down to a fluke and request a replacment plate. One thing I can't stand is having to do tricks to get a plate to stamp and still not even get a good transfer.
For now I can't speak to the direct customer service of Moyra since I did purchase these plates via group buy so I didn't deal directly with Moyra. I will say though the group by seemed to run smoothly and they were able to give us frequent updates regarding our group purchase. As far as my replacement for the Ornaments plate I'll update you when I have news of whether a replacement is possible.
Update: After contacting the group buy organizer yesterday I received a response from Moyra the same day saying they would send me a replacement plate directly! So as far as customer service goes I will say it's superb!
Now if you want to purchase these plates things are a little bit willy nilly. Below I have placed the links for purchasing these plates from distributors depending on where you are located. For ladies in the EU they will be easier to attain than for ladies based in the Americas or Canada. Supposedly there is a distributor here, but when I investigated the page in question was so cluttered and provided no direct links. I didn't feel comfortable sharing it since I really could not find a direct site for purchasing with properly laid out information and a secure shopping page. If I don't feel comfortable purchasing there is no way I would send my followers to purchase. But as beautiful as these plates are I'm sure there is bound to be a stateside retailer soon! Now as far as the pricing goes, using the French website, each plate retails for 6.50 Euro each! That's an amazing deal when you consider the size of these plates and how many images you get.
Update: I've been informed that Beautometry will now be a redistributor of Moyra stamping plates in the US. So yay a great reliable seller has appeared on the scene stateside as I knew inevitably they would! I do not know what the retail price will be yet.

Thank you for a lovely post on these gorgeous plates. (Helped me on choosing mine! ) They stamp beautifully! My favourites from my collection will be Memories, florality 1 and 2,lace love and geometry!
ReplyDeleteI have had issues with Ornaments, Florality 1 and Damask...only about 1/2 of the image picks up. I did contact Moyra and was told no one ever complained before. Very frustrating, as the plates are so lovely. Hope you got a replacement plate.
